The novel, Tenth Man, from this first time, but not so young author, Matt Eberz, is a good
first attempt with both a surprising ending and a surprisingly interesting plot.
Tenth Man is
a story of two men, one in the present and one in the past, trying to solve the same crime.
But more than just a take of mystery,  it is a message on the real lives and character of
soldiers, their families, their friends, and the honor that binds them together well beyond the
grave.  The tale of Sam Call and his close and unlikely friend, Dana Jackson, is a well
thought out, and complex tale of greed and murder that has been hidden for nearly fifty
years.  The story takes Sam Call, an honor bound soldier who has lost his career due to his
stubborn and unwavering conviction to ‘the right thing’, seeks to find Sergeant Jonathan
Poor, whose diary tells intimate thoughts of his World War II era friends and reveals the
beginnings a mystery that not only does he not completely uncover, but also mysteriously
stops reporting.

This is also a love story.  A love story between two soldiers and their wives as well as the
‘love’ soldiers develop for each other.  Sam Call is a man of honor, a tall, athletic, ‘man’s
man’ that would rather head straight into a fight with five men than take one step backward.
Dana Jackson is a small, quiet, refined, and introverted intellectual that would walk a mile to
avoid a menacing dog. These two men, as different as day and night, exemplify the bond
that soldiers, of whatever type, form with each other,  that last a lifetime – and beyond.

Tenth Man is a ‘Good Read’, an intriguing story, and reveals a whole other side of soldiers.
