Jake is an old dog belonging to the married couple Sam and Mary. They live in upper
floor condo are childless and are coming to grips with the fact that they will remain
so. Sam got Jake when the dog was about two years old and before Sam met and
married Mary, and Sam is very attached to Jake.  As with the passing of time Jake is
getting old; he now passes his day by doing two things, laying in the sunlight and
passing gas. Mary is all done with spoiled carpets and noxious fumes and
has been trying to convince Sam that it is time to put Jake down. Convinced Jake is
not ill just in need of a distraction, Sam’s friend brings them a second younger dog to
be Jake’s playmate and hopefully raise his activity level-and lower his gas level. After
a rocky first meeting, Jake takes to the new dog and the tough, wise Jake begins to
teach the young dog about essentials of life; meeting dogs in the park, the art of
begging, bathing in sunlight, and even about sex, love, god, and most importantly,
how to care for his human pets.  It is a charming, funny and touching tale of that just
may make you wonder who is more human.
